Our Vision
To reach out to the needy in the society including those from the Daspati area and establish a social multicultural center in the outskirts of Mumbai having facilities for accommodation of the poor students with support and patronage from the well to do members of the society.
The name “Daspati Maratha Charitable Trust Mumbai has a historical and culturally rich association with the Maratha community in Maharashtra. The Daspati area consists of a group of 13 villages located in Chiplun taluka of Ratnagiri District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. The ancestors of today’s Daspati Maratha were warriors, and they received the entire Daspati area as an INAM (Gift)for exhibiting their bravery and winning a war. The area remained underdeveloped as it is part of the hilly region in Konkan. The people from the Daspati area have been mostly serving in the army or police department or are agriculturists. Since returns from agriculture have been low due to several factors in recent years, the majority of the population has remained mostly poor due to complete dependence on agriculture. Over the years, educated youth have migrated to cities for jobs and a better future. These youths have subsequently settled in these cities.
Some like-minded visionaries from the Daspati Maratha community settled in Mumbai wanted to give back something to their brethren settled in Daspati by providing them with the benefits of development that the country has been experiencing in the last few decades. With this common vision in mind, these visionaries established Daspati Maratha Charitable Trust Mumbai as a trust in the year 2004 to provide a healthy life and good education to the people settled in the Daspati area.
Daspati Maratha Charitable Trust Mumbai is a Public Trust registered with Hon. Charity Commissioner Mumbai under the provision of the Mumbai Public Trust Act. 1950.
